REPORT: 21OCT14: I just got home from having a very pleasant and productive dinner with Jonathan Williams the President and CEO of the USS Iowa Pacific Battleship Center. The two of us are definitely kindred spirits and hes a very smart hardworking businessman who has a rescued Iowa Class Battleship and successful ship museum that verifies the fact that he knows what hes doing. He broke the SAVE RANGER project down for me into several bite size chunks. He outlined the history and challenges that he faced with rescuing the Iowa and what were going to face with rescuing the Ranger. I listened very attentively and he didnt hold back. He didnt gloss it and he told me about all the things that challenged him and his Iowa crew. He told me how the donation process worked for the USS Iowa and how to get through it. He went over marketing, fundraising and mooring locations. He also outlined the challenges that were going to face and talked about the politics and all the drama that occurs. He basically told me as much as he could in 2.5 hours. My take away from this dinner meeting are my new marching orders. I now know what I need to put some additional serious thought into and what new project tasks I need to work on in the next week. I will work diligently and expeditiously and will post my results as soon as possible...Im not disclosing what these new tasks are (for obvious reasons) but rest assured what Ive learned from Jonathan tonight is extremely valuable and will move us all, and the Save Ranger Project, in the right direction.
