< REPOST 2x > You have to make it a full time job while watching Lost or itll simply go way over your head. Many of the answers to the shows tantalizing mysteries are often there in plain view, but you have to know where to look! Through careful observation and deductive reasoning youll be able to fully uncover many of Losts unanswered questions. I have such a great admiration for the creativity and fulfillment of answers that were conscientiously displayed throughout the sixth season. The flash sideway sequences were indeed a depiction of the afterlife whose purpose was to show that whatever commences in death (according to the world of lost) is equally important to our earthly lives. In order for the losties to obtain salvation and cross over into eternity they must reconnect with the most meaningful people from their lives which in this case were the people they met & interacted with while on their island adventures. Yes, even though death had fallen upon them, they werent quite yet at the pearly gates until their quest to let go and reconnect was fulfilled (which eventually happened inside the church). We were able to witness some incredible stories & paths of redemption via the FS narratives - Bens soul on a relentless journey for forgiveness, Jack desperately longing to be the father figure that was nothing short of a night & day difference from his own dad, etc. While the FS taught us a lot, its underlying theme was of eternal connection. The losties souls were eternally connected extending far beyond our rational human perception of the space-time continuum. While the premise of Lost involved some random airline passengers frolicking about on a seemingly deserted tropical island, its realized soon after that something or someone unforeseen to the viewing audience was carefully orchestrating all of the wondrous happenings on the isolated haven for this was clearly no ordinary tale reminiscent of a Gilligans Island type of reverie. This was a multifaceted presentation on life, death, and the overall purpose one may have in our universe. Yes, they were in fact on a dire mission to save the world by keeping the light contained within the heart of the island (were taught that if the light is ever compromised in any way then the human race will be met with certain doom) and also on the perilous task of defeating the MIB (cause his escape from the island equates to certain doom for all of mankind). While this was the underlying reason for each of them being a candidate in pursuance of the island protector, the crazy thing is that none of that ever mattered! Desmond clearly states to Jack in the final episode that the Flash Sideway world is the only thing in life thats meaningful to our existence (being at that place with the ones we love, etc.) His declaration to Jack serves as confirmation of the eternal importance of the FS universe - Their salvation (reconnecting with the dearest influences of their lives and letting go of their character flaws) was more important than anything else imaginable as it solely depended on letting go and moving on from the life bound lessons that were learned & acquired from their island adventures. For a production that required a flash sort of structure in each and every episode, the FS depictions were simply ingenious as the shows closing provided that reassurance of the losties eternal bond. A deep sense of complacency can finally be experienced when realizing that their astonishing earthly journey will forever live happily ever after in another life with the permanence of love eternally blossoming as it endlessly spans far beyond the united pairing of these formerly lost and newly found enlightened souls. Just about as perfect and clever of a show if you ask me! The brilliant scope of it all requires at least a second viewing with your FULL UNDIVIDED attention! The answers are there and youll smack yourself on the forehead when its realized that the ending (as well as many of the other shows necessary occurrences) were cleverly foreshadowed throughout the six season run. Hands down the finest six seasons of television ever created.
