REQUEST FOR TRAINING NOMINATION OF PRACTISING POLITICIANS – POLITICAL MANAGEMENT STUDIES CLL-NOUN & ECRC is delighted to invite and seek nomination and approval for participation of your target state politicians and others seconded to these positions to attend the executive capacity building programmes leading to various awards in the university’s Basic Executive Certificate, Higher Executive Certificate, Advanced Diploma and Graduate Diploma for 2013/2014 session ( 8th September2013). TRAINING OBJECTIVES At the end of the programme, participants will be able to: •change the attitudes of leaders and citizens towards good governance; •connect Nigerian leaders to the world beyond theory and practice through balanced research, skills enhancement, training and capacity development; •revolutionise the thinking and attitudes of practicing politicians and those seeking public offices towards the ethics of democratic tenets and good governance; •adopt a common platform for extensive deliberation and cross-fertilization of ideas on contemporary issues affecting us as a nation; •develop alternative platforms that would limit the conventional compromise of standard and ethical value system among Nigerians. JUSTIFICATION The failure of leadership in Nigeria is so all pervasive and endemic that it begs further analysis. Why do Nigerian leaders fail their constituents or members so consistently, in politics, in commerce and elsewhere? Why does almost every young hopeful end up being such a tawdry disappointment? It cannot simply be on account of a repetitious failure of personality, or a renewed shortfall of moral fibre. An individualistic explanation cannot suffice. But why then is leadership in Nigeria such a seemingly insurmountable challenge? We observed that, with the current awareness on governance issues in the country, capacity building programmes in political management studies is needed. This is important because it will serve as a catalyst for good governance that is dearth in our societies.
