RESCUE... What does it mean to you? Did you know that sometimes - TopicsExpress

RESCUE... What does it mean to you? Did you know that sometimes that is a bad word???? Try using it a few times! So many people out there have given that word a bad name. Just say thats what you do and what you live for to people...to vets, farriers, feed stores, other rescues....OMG!!!! It really hurts those of us that are doing the right thing. Here at Mea Olas Place, it is only PART of what we do. I did not set out to rescue horses. Although, I have saved animals all of my life... by being a vet tech for 27 years, an Animal Control Officer for 3 years, and by saving everything that needed saving that crossed my path.....until almost 3 years ago, it was nothing close to official. It is hard to believe it is official now. And, sometimes, it was easier when it wasnt. Recently, there was a great article in Riding Magazine, about the rescue of mares in foal. The rescue was headed by Red Bucket Equine Rescue. These pictures are two of the original 13 mares rescued. We were called to see if we could help, and pledge funds to save them. It was a time of scramble to get foaling stalls ready, cameras going, and PREPARE! As it turned out, OUR mares were not pregnant. So, does that mean they should be forgotten? There are no cute foal pictures to share..... We LOVE these MARES! We loved them from the start! It was never about possible babies, that all rescues know bring in the CASH! (Um, we all need it, lol)These girls are still here,..... loved and cared for .....and they will NOT go to a sanctuary somewhere that determines their fate of FEAR of humans. YEP, these mares were feral, and we never knew that fact until the hauler came to unload them! The most hilarious part of this is that we got two babies this year...Rowdy, rejected and basically orphaned at 4 hrs old...and Spider...18 months old with a broken pelvis. Ask this question please.....do you know another rescue that takes in babies ( or HORSES) like that? How about feral pregnant mares and commit to keeping them to tame them and adopt them out? Or, how about Crazy Rosie, or unadoptable Volt, Gypsy, and our Matriarch...Mea Ola herself? We are not like other rescues. We LOVE the unlovable AND the unadoptable, regardless of how much money their story can bring in.. Our way of training has produced horses that can ALL (and I mean all of them!) be used for therapy purposes. Stay tuned for 2015. Therapy, Equine Assited Therapy, to be exact...is our direction. We have experienced the benefits of this for both horses and humans since our inception. Our description should be changed from rescue. That is only a part of what we do. :) Thank you, to all of you, that walk this road with us. We could not do any of this without you! We need the prayers, well wishes, the shares... the private messages of support, volunteers, and the donations more than you could know. I will never forget a question given to me in an interview about us crazies that rescue. What has surprised you the most? ... My answer...People I have been blown away by the hearts of people to give...their time, their words of support, and their hard earned money....for something outside of their lives, for something bigger than themselves, and for others..especially for the Mamas......and not just the babies Ann
