RESOLUTION FOR POSTAL WORKERS SAFETY Whereas: The safety philosophy of the Postal Service is any occupational injury and illness can be prevented and this goal is realistic, not theoretical. Supervisors and managers, which include all levels have primary responsibility for the well-being of employees and must fully accept this principle, are responsible and accountable. Whereas: United States Postal Service Local, Regional and Headquarter Supervisors and Managers have failed to implement and / or enforce this safety policy, which has resulted in on the job injuries and deaths of Postal Workers. Whereas: OSHA Federal Injury and Illness Statistics indicates that a total of at least 138,883 Postal Workers ( many go unreported) were injured on the job since Patrick R Donahoe became Post Master General, October 25, 2010. Whereas: A total of at least 48 Postal Workers have died on the job in the performance of their duties, during the tenure of Patrick R.Donahoe as Post Master General. Whereas: An injury to one Postal Worker, is an injury to all Postal Workers.and the death of any Postal Worker should be mourned and remembered by all Postal Workers. Therefore Be It Resolved: An annual National Day of Mourning be established ( date to be determined ), to honor “ Fallen Postal Workers” for those who died or were injured, while in the performance of their duties of the United States Postal Service. Whereas: No Postal Worker should have to worry each day, if this is the day that they will be injured, attacked, or die on the job Further, Whereas: Post Master General Patrick R. Donahoe holds the highest management position and by his authority, determines day to day operations of the United States Post Service, has by his direction, undermined the safety of Postal Workers. Therefore Be It Resolved: Patrick R. Donahoe be held fully accountable and responsible for injuries and deaths of Postal Workers during his tenure as the Post Master General. Therefore Be It Resolved: We the Members demand Post Master General Donahoe resign, effective immediately, and be replaced with a Post Master General who will restore excellent service to the American People and who will protect the lives and livelihood of the Postal Worker. Therefore Be It Resolved: If Post Master General Donahoe, out of good conscience, refuses to relinquish his position, then we the members demand the USPS Board of Governors, Congress or the President of the United States, to remove Post Master General Donahoe, so that no further harm will come to Postal Workers. Therefore Be It Resolved: If Congress & the President of the United States refuses to act, then “ We the Members “ consider them to be just as responsible as those who allowed unsafe working conditions and just as guilty as those who attacked & murdered Postal Workers. Therefore be it resolved: We the Members Demand Justice for Postal Workers who were injured or died in the line of duty and we will not rest until Justice is Served. No Justice ! . . No Peace !
