From a mixed race household, to school, to my neighborhood… everywhere I turned, I felt out of place, as if there was some mold I could never quite fit properly. It wasn’t until later that I began to see this as a blessing. That I had the power to be and live in any way I please, regardless of what others felt was “normal.” Limits broke away. I stopped listening to others opinion of who I am and started listening to my own. Fitting into the mold was now about reshaping the mold. I want to spend the rest of my life working to break the pre-molded ideas of genders, races, beliefs, body types… anything that causes someone to assume they can simplify who you are and what you’re worth into a few words, without your input. When I decide to make a change in my life, in my who I am… it’s going to be mine to make. You decide who you are.
