REST IN PEACE HERO MACHIPITSA MUNTHALI DIES. The United Democratic Flont (UDF) has announced the death of its northern region member, who is also Malawis longest serving political Prisoner Martin Machipisa Munthali. UDF spokes person, Ken Ndanga said that Machipisa died on Monday afternoon at Rumphi District Hospital. With deep sorrow and sadness the United Democratic Front party regrets to announce the death of Machipisa Munthali who died late this afternoon at Rumphi District Hospital. said Ndanga. The late Munthali was until his death a dedicated member of the UDF party and actively participated in the May 20,2014 as one of the parliamentary candidates for the UDF party. Meanwhile the UDF party is discussing with the Munthali family for the funeral program which will be announced in due course. The late Munthali was arrested in 1965 charged and found guity of illegal possession of arms. However after he had served his sentence, in early 1970s he was not realesed but was detained under the public Security Regulations. Machipisa Muthali who also served as President Hastings Bandas bodyguard in early 60s was named Malawian Nelson Mandela after spending twenty- seven years in prison for his work towards multi- party democracy.
