REVIEWS THAT MAKE ME BLUSH: #812 This second book is not just better than the first one - it is TEN TIMES BETTER! The Bible passages chosen are extremely relevant and important discussion starters, the illustrations are provocative and challenging, but - I think the real genius of this series is found in the annotations in the back of the book. As a freelance writer myself, I am consistently amazed by Horus ability to communicate complex arguments within such a limited number of words. In a single paragraph, hes often able to illuminate, argue, and frankly destroy common theological or apologetic arguments that have been passed on for centuries. He is also able to find a perfect balance between wit, wisdom, and skepticism without coming across as a angry. (Though, given his past life in Christian ministry, it is great to read through some of his own struggles with losing his faith...) As far as specifics, I dont know if I have a favorite illustration yet. I laughed out loud at More Than A Woman, I banged my hand on the table while reading, I am Nothing Without Jesus, I grimaced at Whore No More, and I openly wept reading To Train A Child. Actually, one of my favorites is probably the modern day interpretation that opened the door for the commentary on the Pledge of Allegiance.
