RIDGEVILLE, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to chip seal portions of State Road 28 and S.R. 227 in Randolph County. • Tomorrow (SEPT. 19), maintenance crews from the INDOT Albany Subdistrict are scheduled to chip seal approximately three miles of S.R. 28 from the Mississinewa River bridge at Ridgeville to U.S. Highway 27. • On Monday and Tuesday of next week (SEPT. 23 & 24), they will place the liquid asphalt topped with aggregate chips along nine miles of S.R. 227 between U.S. 36 and S.R. 32 near Union City. All operations are weather dependent. Flaggers are going to be present to direct traffic at moving worksites. Meanwhile, pilot vehicles will lead motorists past surface treatment activities. Earlier this week, S.R. 1 was chip sealed from Redkey to Pennville. Once S.R. 227 has been chip sealed, crews will revisit S.R. 1, S.R. 28 and S.R. 227 coating the state highways with a fog seal. Motorists are advised to drive slowly and with caution where fresh chip seal and fog seal surface treatments have been applied. These pavement preservation procedures are cost effective for protecting roadbeds from moisture intrusion and ultra-violet degradation. Chip sealing also improves safety for the motoring public by reestablishing surface friction.
