RIL Digest #Issues of the spirit Part 2 The bible is like a window. Its purpose is to open up our hearts a view of Jesus Christ. Nobody looks at a window, rather we look through a window to see something. The words of scripture are a wonderful and essential gift from God, but we are meant to see past the words and behold the Lord Himself. When the bible is studied and memorised for any other reason, it is unavoidably misunderstood and misused. Jesus once rebuked the Pharisees in John 5:39-40 saying, [39] Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. [40] And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. God wants us to receive, know and experience the resurrected life of His son! Its far better to be ignorant and teachable than firmly attached to dead concepts or satisfied with a sterile belief in the correct Christian doctrines. Familiarity with the bible very often doesnt lead to real knowledge of God. Familiarity with God, however, always leads to a great knowledge and understanding of the bible. Knowing Gods words and knowing God are two different things. We can read Gods words as much we like but real spiritual communication begins when the reality behind these words, the actual substance of which they speak is shown to us.
