Clifford Brown (1930-1956) was an American jazz trumpeter. He died at the age of 25 in a car accident, leaving behind only four years worth of recordings. Nonetheless, he had a considerable influence, he was also a composer of note: two of his compositions, Joy Spring and Daahoud have become jazz standards. Brown and Richie Powell embarked on a drive to Chicago for their next appearance. Powells wife Nancy was at the wheel so that Clifford and Richie could sleep. Mátyás Seiber (1905-1960) was born in Budapest, and studied there with Zoltán Kodály, with whom he toured Hungary collecting folk songs. In 1928, he became director of the jazz department at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, which offered the first (!) academic jazz courses anywhere. After they were closed by the Nazis in 1933, Seiber left Germany and settled in London. He was killed in a car accident in Kruger National Park, while on a lecture tour of South Africa. His most well known composition is perhaps the score to the animation of George Orwells Animal Farm. To this day, his works are part of the piano curriculum of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, UK.
