RIP Aunty Phyllis Bearden, the last of that CC Stollmeyer - TopicsExpress

RIP Aunty Phyllis Bearden, the last of that CC Stollmeyer generation, (the castle Stollmeyers) has closed her eyes @ 105. Charles Merry called this morning & acknowledged he is now our elder, a working farmer @ 80. What of my sweet aunt who took me to school from Santa Cruz in her little Morris Minor all those years ago..me, often sharing the seat with a stray dog? The aunt whom, as a widow with a rumbunctious & adventurous son would call my father to come and give William a licking for some wrong doing? She must have weighed no more than 80 pounds! Daddy used to say he could not come and discipline a boy in cold blood, as this would no doubt be hours after the incident took place. Gregory & I visited her in MacKay, Australia, in 1980, where she had gone to live to be near her only daughter, taking her son, a young man then, to a new life so far away from the cocoa fields of the Santa Cruz Valley. Everyone in that town seemed to know Mrs B. And why wouldnt they? She was as friendly & as legendary as ever. A tiny woman with the biggest heart. RIP dear aunty Phyllis, gone & never forgotten.
