RIP Robin Williams I get very upset when I hear people - TopicsExpress

RIP Robin Williams I get very upset when I hear people proclaim, as if they truly know, that people who commit suicide are weak, selfish, cowards. No...Its quite the contrary!! They laugh when they feel like crying...smile when theyre dying inside. Fight battles that none of us is aware of. Fight real or imagined demons we can not imagine. It seems sometimes that they preface these proclamations with...he had all that money or fame or good job etc But money doesnt equal happiness, nor does fame. We all struggle on some level sometimes. For those with depression it is a full out day to day battle. How dare anyone of us judge or so easily conclude selfishness?!?! Or weakness!! How can we so easily dismiss the very real emotions associated with this illness. I can not imagine a sadness so great, though sometimes it feels like I have come close, that would make death the only option. I can only imagine what it must be like. Those of us left behind, through our anger, pain, sadness and disbelief, may say those things for our own peace of mind. To help us get by, feel better or understand. Its easy to say someone is weak especially if you havnt walked in their shoes. People fighting depression are in a fight for their very lives...Instead of shaming and bashing post mortem, what we can do is pay attention to the signs. Remove the stigmas attached to mental health and getting help. Ask yourself, my God what kind of pain was that person suffering through...that was so great that taking their life was the only solution. Compassion and empathy. Maybe none of us knows what its like to fill alone in a crowd or a sadness so crushing...it feels like theres no way out. I feel very sad and pray that his, Robin Williams, family finds peace. It aint easy!! Other people and families who have experienced this, who are living with as I write this, I hope that you find help and answers, therapy and/or medication that helps. People sometimes dont get the help they need because theyre perceived as weak. Perceived as weak in life for needing help...weak in death because they didnt get it. :-( What choices do we give them. Light and love to all
