RIVERS NEVER RETURN............. Rivers never return from sea They know not where they flow, They stumble and shriek When laughter of waves roars. The music of murmur on ways Singing with birds in summer morn Shaken forever in tossing tides The ocean is so vast, they, so small. Forgotten forever, identity is lost, No more their voice calls around Hurry over the lands beside gardens, The form and essence all gone A long deep sleep never to return. The sea bothers not funeral thoughts The river trembles out in fear, The learning on the windy ways So obscure for departing souls The truth only a mystic knows. The rivers will not find the trees The humming bees on flowers Me sitting at her bank with verse, Never to be in flight like the birds Lost forever in surging tides Merging in the sea is their fate.
