#RMCUP MATCH REPORT R22 vs. Asquith Magpies @ Storey Park Sun 1/9 Second half scoring spree seals the points (content with assistance of Bryden Sharp RL News) In a match that had no bearing on the overall finals position of Windsor, the Wolf Pack finalised their finals preparation in style recording a convincing 38-10 victory over the Asquith Magpies, played in warm Sunday afternoon conditions at Storey Park. Windsor made some late changes to their announced allowing the likes of Joshua Jay, Ben Stewart & Ryan Tramonte to be rested while being able to ensure the likes of Campbell Battye-Smith. Jack Quealey & Robert Duff were qualified for the finals. Both sides enjoyed early chances on their opposition’s goal line but their attacking raids came up short but it was Windsor who eventually opening proceedings after 19 minutes through centre Eddie Aiono, which came on the back of a poor error from Asquith which gifted the Wolves superb field position. Windsor soon scored their second try courtesy of a wonderful individual effort from winger Robert Duff, showing a clean pair of heels before producing a memorable fend which left the would-be Magpies defender clutching at thin air as he crossed the stripe. Aiono’s sideline conversion gave Windsor a 10-0 lead before right on the stroke of half time, former Souths first grader Mark Meredith, accepted a short ball close to the line to score & with the successful conversion from Sione Ala, the Magpies trailed by 4 at the break, 10-6. Windsor stepped up it soon after play resumed & proceeded to go on a five try scoring spree in the space of 12 minutes which took the game away from the home side. The first try came on the back of quick hands which saw Alan Eisenhuth bag his 16th try of the season. The second try followed soon after with a length of the field try with PJ Cartwright and Shenelle Haumono having a hand in sending Chris Aunese-Scanlan over the line. Aunese-Scanlan soon turned provider after making a long line-break before finding Campbell Battye-Smith backing up on his inside to plant the ball over the line despite the attention of a few Magpie defenders. The Wolves fourth try came with their next use of the ball when Chris Satae went on a 35 metre run to score & the onslaught was completed when Eisenhuth sent fullback Jake Butler-Fleming over to score. Aiono converted four of the five tries leaving the score at 38-6 with over twenty minutes remaining & the score set to blow out even further. However the Wolf Pack took their foot off the pedal in the remaining minutes allowing Asquith to score a consolation try when Ala swooped on an Aaron Groom grubber to score in the corner to give us our final score of 38-10. Coach Brad Prior would have been both pleased & a little disappointed with his team’s performance in the second half firstly scoring five tries in 12 minutes only to then ease up over the last twenty minutes. Best for the Wolves were Jack Quealey, PJ Cartwright, Aiono, Aunese-Scanlan & Eli Makaui. Windsor now turn their attention to next week’s elimination semi final versus 6th placed Burwood North Ryde United, to be played Sat 7th September at Ringrose Park, Wentworthville with kickoff at 1:45pm. Final Score: Windsor 38 (Tries: Aiono, Duff, A Eisenhuth, Aunese-Scanlan, Battye-Smith, Satae, Butler-Fleming Goals: Aiono 5/7) def. Asquith 10 (Tries: Meredith, Ala Goals: Ala 1/2)
