RMFA, Petroleum Directorate and Others Donate to Fight Ebola By State House Communications Unit As efforts continue in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease, the Acting Minister of Works, Housing and Infrastructure, Mr. Babagaleh Barrie on behalf of the Road Maintenance Fund Administration together with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, road contractors and consultants on the 28th August, 2014 presented a cheque of Nine Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million, Three Hundred Thousand Leones (Le.959,300,000) to President Koroma at State House. Mr. Babagaleh Barrie on behalf of the delegation said that they are in solidarity to fight against the dreadful disease saying that the disease has caused serious menace to both the populace and the economy of the nation. He further stated the outbreak has disrupted the progress and thereby undermined the successes already achieved as the implementation of the Agenda for Prosperity gathers momentum. In this regard, President Koroma said that the Ebola epidemic is posing a great challenge and a great difficulty to the nation and to the development agenda of the government. He therefore used the opportunity to urge the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and stakeholders in the Roads sector to improve on the Daru-Kailahun Road as it has been an important route, especially during this outbreak. The Petroleum Directorate in intensifying efforts against the spread of Ebola made a cheque donation of One Hundred and Fifty Million Leones (Le.150,000,000) as their contribution in the war against the disease. President Koroma thanked and commended the Directorate and added that it is a supreme sacrifice for an employee to give up his/her salary towards a national cause of this nature. “We have to make as much sacrifices as we could for the survival of the State and for the compatriots that are now exposed to Ebola,” he said. In a similar engagement, the Sierra Leone Institute of Engineer and the Overseas Bunker Trading (OBT) shipping made a cash donation of One Hundred Million Leones and fifty million Leones respectively. In addition, the Chairman of the National Commission for Privatization, Dr Michael Kargbo, on behalf of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority, the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, the Sierra Leone Shipping Agency and the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation made a cheque donation of Eighty Million Leones (Le.80,000,000) as their contribution in the eradication of the Ebola virus disease. The Sierra Leone Freemasons and the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) also contributed towards the Ebola Fund with Fifty Million Leones (Le.50,000,000) and Twenty-Five Million Leones (Le.25,000,000) respectively. President Koroma commended all the contributors for the immense sacrifices they had made to help halt the Ebola spread in the country. Even though the country has been internationally isolated, President Koroma is of the firm belief that with the measures already instituted at the airport will influence the international community to review their actions. “The cancellation of flights has seriously affected our fight against the Ebola menace,” President Koroma said, and added that the suspension of flights has compounded the situation thereby impeding the coming of the experts and logistics that are required to win the fight. The President reiterated the need for Sierra Leoneans to come together to contain the outbreak.
