RMI Heavy Duty Equipment donated to the RMI by the people and government of Japan (JICA) arrived early Monday morning in Guegeegue, Kwajalein Atoll on the Minister of Public Works YFU 96. Offloading was done in the afternoon. On Tuesday, equipment and MOPW personnel began the long awaited task of resurfacing the causeway road and strengthening the eastside (Oceanside) of the causeway by adding more rocks/boulders, sand and dirt along the length of each causeway link to barricade and protect from the waves and tide. This area of the causeway is one of several points that are vulnerable. At King tides, areas are breached and impacted, impeding access and ultimately school for KAHS, Fr. Hacker High School and the same to the children who reside in Guegeegue and go to school in Ebeye. Yesterday, the causeway connection between Guegeegue and Ebwoj (Shell Island) was done with more reinforcement work being done today Wednesday 26, June and the coming weeks.
