ROCKY UPDATE: Well, I know its been awhile... but we continue on our incredible journey learning more and more about each other. As we know, I love all my critters deeply... hard to even fathom... but in my lifetime there have only been a few that have grabbed my heart strings and yanked as hard as this guy has. One being Dancer... and a lot of you remember my journey with her. I cant even type Dancers name without my eyes welling up, and they are now. Gosh, it will be four years this year that she has been gone and my heart hasnt healed over that. Now we have the Rocky story that many of you are a huge part of. So, here are some more things that we are learning. Rocky is a great dog to have in a drought when there is not standing water. He cant help himself, he does a full body roll in the mud puddle. F-U-L-L B-O-D-Y R-O-L-L Then he gives me a big ol grin and wiggles and wiggles about it. Do I grin back?? Not so much. Rocky loves to step outside the box. If he had thumbs, he would color outside the lines! I so admire that trait in a person, it resonates with my heart. With my dog? Not so much. He has found a soft spot where my pasture trough is by the fence, and I over flow the trough and its nice and muddy and Rocky (who wanted to be a ditch digger in a different life) has dug himself a great place to get out head out to the wide open spaces of the pasture. The good part about this is, he is no longer the dog on the corner that was scared of everyone, when I run out and open the gate by where he gets out, he comes running to me joyfully and acts like its been just forever and we are reunited... I love his love for me! Digging a hole and getting into the pasture and setting bad examples for the other dogs... NOT SO MUCH. Now, I had to board Rocky, Moonie, Bo and Maxine for a couple nights while I did a campaign tour and I was so excited that Rocky actually enthusiastically jumped in the van with his sister and brothers from other mothers... he was just a delight on the way to the SPA-CATION I told them about, it was bliss. When they got there and were put into their indoor/outdoor kennels were they happy with me?? Not so much. However, this morning when I went to pick them up, the gal at the vets office explained he was very subdued and didnt utter a peep the entire time I was gone, but when he heard my voice and the van pull up, he went screaming with ballistic joyfulness. It was very humbling actually and he was louder than all the other dogs there on their fake spa-cations. He practically flew to me when we opened the kennel door. It was amazing. I got them all loaded, and he jumped in the van, rode with his head between the front seats to touch me and kiss me and didnt stop talking to me all the 12 miles home. Im serious, it wasnt barking, he was talking to meeeeeeee! They are always so grateful to be home, but this was an entire new ballgame for the Rocket-man. He went in the back yard and rolled in a big mud puddle first thing. He was happy-happy-happy. Me? Not so much. But were dealing with it. You just cant take the Lab out of the Labrador. Its been one year ago this month that he was dumped out here, can you believe it? Thats when I started seeing him, sometime in the middle to end of June. He started letting me get close enough to feed him by the first week of September. I got him home the weekend before Thanksgiving and our first snow and the rest is history in the making. Hes a goofball. BUT HES MY #GOOFBALL! #Truelovehappenstothosewhowait
