ROGUE RIVER DRIVE FIRE UPDATE - REVISION FOR ACREAGE Had made a post just a few minutes ago and misunderstood what was being said. I am going to say we honestly have NO idea how many acres the fire is because out on the line...they have no idea. They are still doing a full size up of the fire and no mapping has really been done yet. There has been radio traffic estimating it around 100 acres, and there has been radio traffic estimating it at no more than 60 - 80 acres. I got a message from a source out there walking it out saying it could be as high as 150 acres. Acreage will be adjusted once accurate mapping is done. The groundpounders are taking over for the night. The are a fleet of bulldozers out there and they will be joined by hand crews and engines working through the night. The first priority will be cutting off the direction of spread, or attacking the head of the fire. They will also be working to secure structures up there. The fire has laid down nicely for them now. But, make no mistake this is far from over. There is going to be a lot of line to secure and then there will be extensive mop up to do. With the terrain, the fuel loads, and the threat for more thunderstorms with winds...they have a tough fight ahead of them. If things go perfectly it will likely be two days at least to get this fire fully secure. The biggest challenges here will be the weather over the next couple of days. Hopefully we can avoid winds out here so that they can get this corralled quickly.
