ROLL UP THE SIDEWALKS..... I was born in Denison, Tx., about 110 miles north, north east of Ft. Worth. Denison-Sherman, where I lived the first 6 years of my life were small towns. I remember that every Saturday afternoon around 3-4:00 p.m. EVERYTHING begin to close down....grocery stores, places of business, service stations (as they were called back then), restaurants, convenience stores....I mean EVERYTHING. Families didnt gather at little league, pony league or any other league ball parks. Soccer hadnt been heard of. Bats, balls and gloves were put away. I mean the city closed down with the exception of police, firemen and the hospital. I remember all these years later my daddy saying They have rolled up the side walks No one was out. The families were at home. What was is all about? It was all about getting ready for Sunday. Families, momma, daddy, brothers and sisters, with one accord....got their Sunday Go To Meeting Clothes out. Momma got out her favorite dress, dad got his out of style and 5 year old suit out with a tie that didnt match and then spit shined his shoes. Girls got their frilly dresses and bows, boys got their clip on ties and black pants. Yes! all the boys looked just alike. But as the 6:00 hour rolled around the family was ready to go to SUNDAY SCHOOL and Church BOTH services on Sunday. Yes! We rolled up the sidewalks....but it was a sign of good things to come. CHURCH on Sunday. Its, funny, its sad, its beautiful, its heart warming but it brings back the memories when America was a great country. As a Pastor, preacher, Christian, one that loves my country and one that knows the joy of it all..... Dads I call upon you and yours to Roll up your side walks this afternoon and get the family together and ready to be in Church tomorrow. Joshua 24:15 As far as me and my household we WILL serve The Lord.
