ROUND ROCK EXPRESS BASEBALL: EXPRESS LOST TO TACOMA RAINIERS, 6-2 The Tacoma Rainiers (68-62) got an outstanding performance from starting pitcher Jordan Pries Monday night as they defeated the Round Rock Express (63-66) 6-2 in game three of their four-game series at Dell Diamond. Pries (9-6, 3.77 ERA), the Seattle Mariners 30th round pick three years ago, moved into a tie for the Rainiers team-lead in wins after holding the E-Train scoreless for the first six innings. The right-hander gave up just three singles in the game, while striking out five and walking one. On the other hand, tough luck is the only way to describe Express starting pitcher Edwar Cabreras first inning. The left-hander induced nothing but weak contact, not once allowing a Rainier to barrel up one of his offerings. But at the end of one, Round Rocks hurler found himself sitting in a 3-0 hole. CF James Jones reached on a leadoff infield single, moved to second then third on a pair of bleeders and scored on a Stefen Romero groundout that could not be turned into a double play because of how weakly it was hit. 1B Justin Smoak then sliced a RBI single just inside the right field line and later in the inning C John Hicks used the end of the bat to slap a run-scoring base hit into center field. The Rainiers added another run in the sixth to chase Cabrera (1-2, 4.55 ERA) from the game. With two on, two out and a 1-2 count, Jones wasted two strikes from Round Rocks man on the mound before lining a RBI single into center field. On the night, Cabrera allowed four earned on 10 hits in 5.2 innings, while striking out four and walking two to suffer his second Triple-A loss of the season. After being shutout through the first two-thirds of the game, the Express finally broke through for a run in the seventh. RF Michael Choice led off with a single though the right side and, after a fly out, scored when C Brett Nicholas roped a double to the wall in left, cutting the margin to three. Tacoma, however, tacked on two more runs on a Smoak double in the ninth to put the game away. E-Train 2B Josh Wilson brought the final score to 6-2 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth, skying a shot to fairly deep center to plate 1B Tomas Telis. Nicholas, SS Luis Sardinas and LF Ryan Rua each had two hits in the contest to pace Round Rock offensively. The E-Trains eight-game homestand will come to a close Tuesday with their series finale with the Rainiers at Dell Diamond. Texas Rangers LHP Derek Holland (0-1, 9.14 ERA) is scheduled to make his third rehab start with Round Rock against Tacoma RHP Forrest Snow (2-2, 2.18 ERA).
