RSD189: Awesome 8 mi run on the trails tonight! First off, a little background, theres a connector trail that is about 1.2 miles long from where I park the truck that takes you straight up to the ridge of Oak Mountain. In the trail races this year, this segment had killed me, so I made it a personal goal to run up the entire connector without walking by the end of the year. Until today, I had only made it 0.90 miles. I had run there yesterday and only made it up 0.87 miles before I had to walk, so I wasnt planning on setting any records today. But before I knew it, I had hit 0.99 miles when I looked at my watch as I came to a walk. I thought, wow! Thats a big jump! Awesome! A few moments later, I saw my good friend Sonia and her friend Kimberly coming down the connector. Sonia gave me a big hug and said that I was the first human other than Kimberly she had seen for hours and asked how to get back to her car. Apparently they got a little turned around and had gone further than planned. I made a little bit of trail magic and took them back to their car and came back to the trail head. I didnt even think twice about going up that connector for the second time. As usual, I took off running and before I knew it, I was passing the 1 mile mark. I got excited but kept my cool and BAM! Not only did I run up the entire connector, I just kept running! (Run Forrest Run!!!). By the time I got back to the truck it had gotten down to a cool 48° and as soon as I stopped, my knees let me know that my old enemy rheumatoid arthritis had come back to visit for the winter. And it hurt! But I dont have a care in the world. I have crushed one of the goals I had set for this year, and I am riding that runners high!!
