RSLAF enters second phase of Somalia deployment preparation By Samuel Ben Turay Head of Public Relations and Communications in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has disclosed that eight hundred and fifty (850) soldiers have last December concluded the first training session for the second deployment of the Sierra Leone contingent at the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). “They have completed the first training session and are now preparing to go to the second level,” Col. M.M. Samura told Concord Times last Friday. He said the second and third phases of training will both last for three months before the deployment of a new battalion, which will replace the current one in the troubled Horn of Africa nation. He disclosed that each batch spends a year on peace support operations in Somalia as part of a multinational African force mandated by the United Nations Security Council, but under the auspices of the Africa Union Commission, to restore peace and security in Somalia. He said the first contingent would return home having completed their one year tour of duty.
