RSS wants to ‘ Hinduise’ Kashmir: Hurriyat ( M) Srinagar, Nov 20: The Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday said the “ agenda of right- wing Rashtriya Sevak Sangh ( RSS) is Hinduization of Kashmir”, terming it a “ dangerous design fraught with serious consequences.” “ The cherished dream and agenda of the extremist right- wing Hindu organisation, the RSS, is of Indianization of Kashmir which, in their terms means Hinduisation. It is a very dangerous design and will have serious repercussion for the region, if not addressed,” said a Hurriyat ( M) spokesman in a statement. “ Extremism in both politics and religion is a disastrous trend. Forces who play politics on communal and divisive lines have always been rejected by the mature and brave people of Kashmir and they will never be allowed to succeed.” Mirwaiz Thursday chaired a joint meeting of the Hurriyat ( M) executive council members, general council members and working committee members at Mirwaiz Manzil here. Representatives of all the Hurriyat constituents were present in the meeting. The participants discussed the ongoing political situation besides taking stock of organizational matters. Flaying mainstream parties and leaders for “ using different allurements” to garner votes in the upcoming polls, the participants said, “ The way the pro- India political parties are splurging money on the so- called sham elections, furthering corruption and greed among people will have a negative impact on the society.” Rejecting the “ election drama” in Kashmir, the participants stated that the “ futile exercise of polls never had any sort of bearing on the disputed status of Kashmir and will never have it in future.” Asserting that the people of Kashmir are yet to decide their political future, the participants said the UN resolutions provide the legal basis to the disputed status of Kashmir. They said the solution to the Kashmir issue could be found either by implementing UN resolutions or through mutually accepted solution hammered out by a meaningful dialogue between the three stakeholders to the dispute— India, Pakistan and Kashmir. Expressing concern over the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan, the participants said, “ The people of Kashmir, who are always at the receiving end of it, advocate for the normalization of relations between the two nations which is not possible unless the Kashmir issue is addressed keeping in view the commitments made to them by both the countries at the United Nations.” The meetings strongly denounced the arrests of pro- freedom leadership and crackdown on Hurriyat leaders and activists. “ Such a draconian step is violation of the basic tenets of morality and humanity,” the participants said, expressing serious concern over the continuous detention of senior Hurriyat leaders including Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and others.
