RTW by any other name (ERA) is still RTW. (hint: the legislations sponsors should be the first clue) Union political spending illustrates an even greater disdain for democratic ideals. In 2012, 43 percent of union households voted for a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives. Yet over 90 percent of union political contributions went to Democratic candidates. This disconnect is especially troubling in a state like Oregon, where unions can impose mandatory dues as a condition of employment. Forcing individuals to support candidates with whose opinions they disagree is not only anti-democratic, but a notion Thomas Jefferson deemed sinful and tyrannical. The Employee Rights Act (ERA), sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), is pro-employee legislation that would provide union members the rights enjoyed by citizens of democracies. Currently with 27 cosponsors in the Senate and 91 cosponsors in the House, the ERA represents the first major reform of federal labor law in over half a century. oregonlive/opinion/index.ssf/2014/06/federal_legislation_would_make.html#incart_river#incart_opinion
