★ RUFFAS is at the VET: Skin Scrape NEG Heartworms POSITIVE Tick Disease NEG ~ BAD skin infection from FLEAS, he is obviously allergic to them and he never got any protection! Had a medicated bath and Activyl. Steroids, Antibiotics (20 days cephalexin) and Anti-Fungal Meds (2 wks). It was indeed Malassezia Dermatitis as I thought! He does have hooks/worming. Received vaccines. Currently spent around $250. Cannot neuter till skin is better ($100). Will have to have meds twice a day, so will need to board. He weighs 52# Dr. B says he needs to finish his other meds first, before the doxy in 2 weeks. If skin has calmed down, then maybe could be neutered then. Doxy is $57. Then 30 days after start of doxy, 2 shot/2 days is $490 plus an exam... so entire treatment would be around $600 if done here and if no major Immiticide price increase. Giving him a heartguard now (should we go ahead and order pack?). Dr. B says he is an absolute sweetheart and anticipate a full skin recovery and should be ok if properly taken care of! So we are looking at about $1000 total without boarding included. Leaving him overnight at least. The est age of 4 might be pretty close. His teeth look pretty clean, but he does have a couple of broken ones that may have came from trying to escape from a kennel. No dental needed, not giving him trouble now. Gracious! But he is worth it, isnt he? If you can help with vet bills, it would be much appreciated! You can either call the Nash County Animal Hospital at 252-459-4001 or donate using YouCaring (https://youcaring/Nash-Ruffas). If you wish to send a check, let us know. Now we need to find a Rescue because we have an invested interest, everyone says this dogs personality is AMAZING and surely we dont want him at risk of death anymore! THANKS for Caring! ~ Carol
