RULES FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE *PERSIAN RESCUE NETWORK* GROUP PAGE ON FACEBOOK This is a public Facebook group that started as the Persian_Rescue Yahoo Discussion Group, an email listserve, on Yahoo. The Yahoo infrastructure started proving too clunky, preventing members from: posting pictures. While we are not abandoning Yahoo, we are expanding our participation onto Facebook for its easy-to-use and fast tools for posting endangered and homeless cats and their photos and for networking with rescuers, transporters and potential adopters. Some history from our Moderator here and on Yahoo, Susan Creighton: >>Linda Mercer started this list in 2000. Unfortunately, Linda died December 24, 2012. She left me, Susan Creighton, as the sole moderator of the Yahoo group. Both of us have, using this list, enjoyed some really wonderful successes in getting Persians placed. In the process, this list has grown to more than 1700 members. Now that were on Facebook, we can be more open and flexible, such as allowing posts about Persian care, feeding and health issues, particularly to support foster parents when a foster is ill or to help owners when a behavioral problem could potentially cause a cat to lose its home…. But ALWAYS, the first priority on the Persian Rescue Network Group Page MUST be: To help endangered and homeless Persians, Himalayan Persians and Exotics to find new, loving, and truly FOREVER homes. 1. NO personal attacks. Personal attacks on the list will result in immediate removal from the list. Our discussions must be civil, helpful and aimed towards assisting any endangered or homeless Persian, Persian Himalayan or Exotic Cat to find a loving forever home. 2. Please keep posts focused on the health and welfare of, and finding homes for, Persians, Himmies and Exotics (Zots!). 3. All list members should be aware that any message on this list may be cross posted to other rescue lists to allow for maximum response to keep the cats involved safe. 4. No breeder should be responding to posts on this Group page looking to adopt a cat for breeding. All rescue cats should be neutered and spayed before placement or placed with a firm neuter/spay contract and deposit. 5. Pedigreed kittens from a breeder may not be posted for adoption on this list. 6. The Persian Rescue Network has great concern for feline safety and longevity. For that reason, we do not recommend, support or advise allowing your Persian (or any cat) to go outdoors, where its lifespan will be 20% shorter, due to the very real risk of disease, animal attack or being hit by a car. We do not support raising Persians as outdoor or indoor-outdoor pets. Posters who talk about this will encounter other posters urging them to keep their cats safe inside or to create safe enclosures, catios, harnesses, and always supervise when the cat is unenclosed. 7. Posts about non-Persian/Himmie/Exotic cats will be allowed if were dealing with all cats from one home or a bonded pair. People looking to post cats from other breeds, where no Persians/Himmies/Exotics are involved, must message the moderators for a referral. Such posts can be removed if posted without first messaging and hearing back from a moderator. TRANSPORTS: Theres room and resources on Facebook for us to organize transports, and I know a lot of people have volunteered to do legs of transports. But weve never had the tools to really get organized. Now we can. 8. The Persian Rescue Network is an Open Group page on Facebook. Posters can post without pre-screening or moderator approval. If a post violates the rules or the spirit of the forum, however, the moderators will remove it. If the Open format leads to a lot of chaos, drama or interferes with the rescue of endangered or homeless cats, the Moderators may go to a Closed Group. Also, individuals repeatedly violating the rules of this forum will be banned from the page. 9. NO DONATIONS MAY BE PLEDGED OR POSTED ON THREADS UNTIL THE PERSIAN RESCUE NETWORK HAS HAD A CHANCE TO FORMULATE POLICY ON HOW WE WANT TO HANDLE DONATIONS FOR RESCUE ON THIS GROUP PAGE. Pledge donations have caused conflict and drama on other rescue networking pages. At the same time, there have been members who have wanted to donate to help facilitate and expedite a rescue…picking up adoption fees, gas costs, etc. We need to form a policy on this issue, and we may even set up a designated rescue to maintain an escrow account for such a fund. Until we have something definite set up, NO PLEDGES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THESE PAGES. 10. ONLY MODERATORS ARE AUTHORIZED TO POST WHEN A CAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY PLACED OR PULLED FROM A SHELTER. Sometimes individual posters hear erroneous information through the grapevine that a cat has been successfully rescued. If such information gets posted too soon, then a group that is currently involved in pulling the cat may mistakenly believe that they are no longer needed and the cat is safe. Then the cat stays at the shelter and ends up being euthanized. For this reason, ONLY MODERATORS are allowed to post when a given cat has been pulled or adopted. If you are the rescuer or adopter who has pulled the cat and you have it in your custody or control (with one of your transporters, foster homes or temporary fosters), you may post that the animal is safe, and please include FREEDOM PHOTOGRAPHS!!! Thank you for your time. If you have any questions please contact the Moderators by private message. The moderators at this time are: Susan Creighton Andrea Ploscowe Stephanie Saible
