•••RUMOURS *RUMOURS••• Social Club Rumours!!!! Surprise,☺️ I am not in jail and neither are any one else related to the Great Whale Rivet Community Association. The Club is Closed Today due to the -40 temperature. On Saturday night police officers from the Surete du Quebec, the Whapmagoostui Police and the Kativik Police arrived at the Social Club to do an annual inspection of the operations and management policies. This is normal. They come during open hours of normal operation to inspect and insure that proper quantities are sold, restrictions and policies are being respected, and that minors are not present in the bar. All of thus criteria was respected and in effect 😄 At first it seemed that we had many illegal beer products on the bar so for several days there was a serious questioning of the operation. This was nearly 500 cases of beer (from sealift) that appeared not to be marked as bar beer which is far more expensive and has a higher tax rate than personal consumption beer sold at depanneurs (Corner Stores) in Quebec. This led to great speculation that I was responsible as manager for tax evasion and operating an illegal bar. Let me assure now that I have not, presently, in the past, or future done anything that would place the Association or myself at such risk. After much ado about nothing ( other than extreme stress to me) it has been determined and clarified that under Revenu Quebec law there is a provision North of the 53rd parallel which lows us to receive these beers. They were ordered directly from the Labatts and Molson Companies and delivered on sealift. There are no middle men, grafting, kick backs or favours. Now that we all understand the law and that there was no illegal intent the police have released the products in question without any further consequence. At no time was I under arrest. The police were professional and carried out their duties as they are required. So did I. I thank you for your understanding and assure you that I am committed to maintaining and continuing the good work we do. In closing I will remind people how damaging and hurtful rumours and speculation can be. 😏
