RUNNING FROM YOUR PLACE Dear friend, where is your place in life? Where is your place in this world? You see by nature the world’s order is well organized and properly sequenced to deliver on its purpose, potential and possibilities. The earth has been for billions of years before mankind began to inhabit the earth. Apart from the natural sequence of our world where the earth rotates around its own axis and the interplay of the entire cosmos bringing about day and night, times and seasons, years and millenniums; the social order – that is the relative interaction of living organisms is also perfectly organized. The simple example of this is the food chain and web wherein animals feed on plants and plants feed on animals in an interesting cycle that sustains life and continuous existence. Everything is well and properly organized; little wonder the universe has existed for so long without self-destruction. Order and organization has sustained existence. You see, order and organization is the antidote to a chaotic situation and life. Every time a thing is not in its place; out of order or disorganized, there is chaos, confusion, retardation or stagnation. When things are disorganized, there is frustration and distress. Organization and proper order is critical to progress, peace and success. Any nation without order or organization ceases to be a nation. A community not well organized would frequently experience dissention, fracas and conflicts. A home where order is out of place becomes dysfunctional and desolate. Order and organization is the key to progress, peace and possibilities. Everything in life has its place, purpose and role. When anything is displaced it begins to malfunction, fail and consequently self-destruct. In a car, water is not meant for the carburator and fuel is not meant for the radiator. In beauty, lipstick is not an eye shadow and your facial scrub is not your body wash. Everything has its place and purpose. A major challenge for mankind today is simply the sheer number of individual who do not know exactly what their role or place is in this world. Because of the sophisticated nature of our social interaction and interdependence, we easily lose ourselves along our journeys and destinies through life. We easily take on the form and nature of who, what and where we’re most conversant or familiar with. We as mankind find it too easy to adapt and settle anywhere; we are conditioned to function that way. An eagle will never give up trying to fly no matter how long it takes, a fish would never adapt to existing outside of water because it knows it would kill it. A penguin would not adapt to the desert environment and a polar beer will not move to the jungle. These lesser creatures know their place and would never settle for anything or anywhere outside of their place. Even if it kills them trying, they’ll rather die than give up on finding their place, they know their place and would only function perfectly in their place. But as mankind, because we have superior intelligence and can create ways to cope and survive outside our perfect places of purpose, we settle anywhere and for anything. This strength unfortunately has become a weakness because by it, many have failed and lived lives far apart from their very essence and purpose in this world. Interestingly in mankind’s attempt to establish order and control, structures and mind reconditioning institutions have been established to tutor people on who they can be but not really expose them to who they really are. Our culture, tradition, formal and informal educational institutions today keep educating and teaching us how we can live better lives and be the best that we can be. This of course is a commendable feat and has sure brought about civility, decency, maturity, ethics and good values in the society, a possible consequence or a gap in this practice however, is the premium these institutions has placed on some kind of abilities and the disdain or derision it has brought on some very useful skills and abilities very much needed in this world as well. Consequently, most people gravitate towards the most prestigious, respected and valued kind of professions, skills and abilities in life, abandoning the ones disdained or undervalued even if it is their purpose and their place in life. Many today are in professions they don’t like, employments they don’t like, associations they don’t like, industries they don’t find interesting and interactions they find boring but chose to remain and endure because it’s perceived as premium and prestigious. These people running from their place in this world to take on lives, functions and purposes not originally meant for them are mostly frustrated, unhappy, depressed and slow in their journeys through life.
