Rabbi Sacks is delighted to be part of the selection committee for The Jerusalem Unity Prize in Memory of Eyal, Gil-ad and Naftali, a joint initiative between the families of Eyal Yifrah, Gil-ad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel, the three teens kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in the summer of 2014, together with the Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat and Gesher. See more at: unityprize.org On being named a member of the prize selection committee, Rabbi Sacks said: In the days following the abduction of Eyal, Gil-ad and Naftali, and in the aftermath of news of their murder, Israel and the Jewish world was united in a remarkable way, across the religious and political spectrum and from around the Jewish world, first in hope, then despair. There was a sense of achdus, a recognition that we truly were am echad blev echad, one people with one heart. These prizes, established by the Ifrach, Shaar and Fraenkel families in memory of Eyal, Gil-ad and Naftali, aim to facilitate unity between all parts of Israeli society as well as Jews from the Diaspora. It is this sense of kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh, that every Jew is responsible for every Jew, that is one of the callings of our time and why I am so deeply honoured to be part of the Unity Prize Committee.
