Rabbinic Jews just finished the holiday of Shavuot (Pentacost). Given that Rosh Hashana corresponds to Ras as-Sana and Yom Kippur to Ashura, then Shavuot corresponds to Eid Adha. This is the time that celebrates the giving of the Torah to Moses (pbuh) on Mount Sinai. According to Jewish tradition it is also the time when Noah (pbuh) offered sacrifice when he came out of the Ark. So mankind for thousands of years since Noah (pbuh) offered sacrifice on this day. According to the Torah it is also the day when Abraham (pbuh) and Ishmael (pbuh) received the covenant of circumcision at the covenant between the parts. So it was only natural that this should also be the day when the Torah was given to Moses (pbuh) on Mount Sinai.
