Rabbits are easy to breed, easy to obtain, and easy to sell in pet - TopicsExpress

Rabbits are easy to breed, easy to obtain, and easy to sell in pet stores. This means that they are also easy to find in shelters and rescues. Rabbits are the third most common animal found in shelters aside from cats and dogs. Were not sure if were coming up on the Christmas dump, but we seem to have a steady number of new intake requests for rabbits. Most arent even a year old yet. This is so upsetting, because rabbits make wonderful pets. They can be a 12 year commitment, but have the potential to make wonderful companions if said potential is recognized. Today, despite being at capacity for rabbits in our rescue, we took in a rabbit that was in a state of emergency. She needed to be re-homed by this evening, or she risked going to a shelter and facing euthanasia. Her only quirk is that shes a 2.5 year old unspayed female that is simply acting like a hormonal female rabbit. It is so important to have your rabbits spayed or neutered to reduce rabbitudes that are caused by raging hormones. Considering we can not accept any more rabbits, Ohio House Rabbit Rescue will be taking her once transport to Columbus can be arranged. (Pictured below: a gorgeous mini satin.) Shortly after settling her in, we hear that a rabbit rescue we recently partnered with 2 hours south of us (Bun Bun Brigade) received an email begging for help with 30/+ rabbits. Females and males living outside in a lot. The situation is now out of control. The caretakers are out of money, and soon out of food. They are currently trying to gain control of the situation by purchasing food and offering assistance over time so long as males and females are kept separate. We would love to be able to help, but for some reason, rabbit adoption/inquiries have ceased - and the same goes for fosters. We are not a rabbit-focused rescue, which means we are only able to take in 1-3 at a time depending on the number of fosters we have open to taking rabbits. We currently have 2 adoptable rabbits that can be found on our website. Another will be added next month after her spay surgery. If interested in adopting, fostering, or donating towards the rescue of the 30/+ rabbits...please contact us!
