Rabies Update: According to State Public Health Veterinarian - TopicsExpress

Rabies Update: According to State Public Health Veterinarian Emilio DeBess, the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory has reported that a rabies positive bat was found in Clackamas County. The bat, found in Damascus, had contact with 2 unvaccinated cats. According to the Rabies Compendium, the cats could undergo a strict 6 month quarantine or be euthanized. The owner opted to euthanize both cats. Please make sure your pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) are up to date on their vaccinations, and avoid contact with any bat that appears sick, is flopping around, or is behaving unusually. Vaccination may also be recommended for equines. Please consult with your veterinarian if you have any questions about rabies and protecting your animals.
