Rachel Hoskins Smith asked, We are new to homeschooling... after being in a public school for 3 years. Any advice for homeschooling a child with learning disabilities, especially in math and reading? I prefer a Christian curriculum. The child in question is my youngest son who just turned eight. He is very delayed (according to public school testing). They told us he was on a early kindergarten level. I fought to have him retained in the first grade again this year, but was told that no matter what or how much or little he progresses, he will not be able to be retained any more in the future. Basically, they want to put my son through 6 1/2 hour days where he is in a group of 30 kids and doesnt understand anything that they are doing. We have an appointment at UVA next month for more extensive and accurate testing. I just dont know what my options are for homeschooling a child with learning disabilities, because I know there is no way he can do an end-of-the-year grade-level achievement test.
