Rachmaninov wrote this sonata in 1913. Then he was rewritten in 1931 for it to be much shorter. The second version (the one Yuja Wang plays) is not only much shorter, but aqussi very different, less romantic, more in the style expressionist of the time. The harmonies are very complex, songs intertwine extremely tightly, making the interpretation of this sonata so hard ... It takes a master hand to get to make it clear musical discourse and harmonies, not to mention the structure to be well highlighted by appropriate choice of dynamics and tempos. Yuja Wang offers the absolutely final !!!!!!! It can play differently, but not better ........... For not too long, summarize ... In this sonata, Yuja Wang succeeds: 1) To bring out all the harmonies and conterpoint an incredibly clear and understandable way, as no one had ever done so far !!! 2) create an ecstatic and quiet atmosphere together very light and magic in the first movement ... 3) To make all clear harmonies while maintaining an atmosphere that goes from the impressionism of Debussy almost a affirné expressionism, but never hard ... 4) to the second movement a completely hallucinatory epic, by ringing the harminies and strange sounds as if every note was a star that shone in the sky ... 5) Household dynamics to output the true summit in the last movement, while still managing to sound the lyrical theme (which appears three times in the last movement), as if it was some sort of built-in slow motion fast motion slow theme that seems to pierce this dark stormy night as a desperate love song ... No, I repeat, its beautiful, its magic, its spooky, it follows from this interpretation petrified and unable to utter a word for several minutes, while the harmonies still resonate in our memories !!!!!!!............ https://youtube/watch?v=ek_kKFE2ibo
