Racing between the flags today centred on two locations at Kilkenny and Roscommon with young Wexford jockey Robert James riding his first double of the season at Rockfield, Co Roscommon. James the 20 year son of Trevor and Olive James from Killanne in Co Wexford won on Kerryhead Storm and The Last Derby for David Christie. The 20 year old rides out for the Colin Bowe yard in Kiltealy most near everyday and was winning his eleventh point to point here. He started out riding with Sean and Donnchadh Doyle at their yard in Ballindaggan and currently has a couple of pretrainers on the go himself. David Christies red hot streak continues with James getting the leg up from the Co Fermanagh based trainer. They took the Winners contest with Kerryhead Storm an 8 year old son of Glacial Storm in the colours of Ray Nicholas and RJ Watson. This was the horses first run of the year and he could progress from here. It was exactly the same team that won the Open with The Last Derby to record that horses second win between the flags since having a career change. The classy 9 year old son of Anabaa was a Black Type performer for Eoin Griffin in his day and could be a very interesting recruit. It would be remiss to leave Rockfield without a note taken of the 4 year old winner Venitien De Mai for Jim Dreaper and Alan Potts. This son of Network is worth popping into the notebook for the future. The Kilkenny Foxhound meeting at Grennan also saw a number of notable wins on the day. Barry ONeill retained his lead in the jockeys championship when winning on Mi Westerner for Donnchadh Doyle and the Monbeg Syndicate. This Westerner 5 year old mare was running in her fourth race of the season and was well tuned for the day. Jamie Codd didnt let ONeill further ahead as he won on the British import Sweet Prince for Wexford trainer Denis Murphy and owner Catherine Murphy. This 6 year old Court Cave gelding was placed on the track over there and it will be interesting to see where he goes next. The same can be said of Philip Rothwells Thornhill Flyer who won the 5 year old geldings maiden under Darren Howard. This son of Broadway Flyer was winning at his second attempt with Co Wicklow based Rothwell looking forward to his future. Co Waterford trainer Vincent Halley struck again with his three time winner Turtle Express in the Winners contest under Paul Power, while the Co Kilkenny yard of Shark Hanlon won the older horses maiden with Definite Magic and Rachel Blackmore. Completing the round up today is 17 year old Eoin OSullivan who booted home another ex British import The Hollinwell who won the Open for Co Cork based Eugene OSullivan. This 10 year old Classic Cliche gelding was last seen on the track on the All Weather at Southwell! Check out P2P for the 1234 on the day.
