Radamel Falcao is keen to emulate Manchester United goal machine - TopicsExpress

Radamel Falcao is keen to emulate Manchester United goal machine Ruud Van Nistelrooy during his time at Old Trafford, while also revealing that many of his idols are former Red Devils legends. Falcao made his first start in almost two months at Villa Park at the weekend, capping the performance with a superb headed equaliser, his second United goal and second in two starts. And the Colombian is hell bent on extending his goalscoring form into the Christmas period and beyond, as he seeks to put his injury misery behind him and forge his own legacy at the Theatre of Dreams. “You know I always admired Ruud Van Nsitelrooy in my position. He was a star attraction for me. “Above and beyond him, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes for their style of play. It is much admired by players from all over the world. “David Beckham, of course. I couldn’t fail to mention him as he has opened up routes between continents as a footballer. They are legends who press all the right buttons. Eric Cantona as well – he was a very exciting and entertaining player to watch. “It makes me very, very happy to be welcomed so much by the fans. It is really great to be appreciated like this and I want to thank them with all of my heart. “I think the best way I can repay the supporters for their kindness towards me, and for all their love, support and appreciation, is to score goals and win trophies for them.” Falcao has been the butt of several jokes this season, as injuries have derailed his progess under Louis Van Gaal, with many members of the media suggesting the Dutchman has soured on the idea of making the former Atleti strikers loan deal permanent. However, Falcao insists he is happy in England and is looking to fire United to success. “I always want to improve on my haul from the previous season,” said Falcao. “That is the personal goal I set myself. “To do that, I need to train well and train in the right way and I am pleased to say that is all going well at the moment. That’s the way to do it, I don’t set a specific number as a target, I just try to improve on last year’s tally. “Obviously to be here is a dream for me and I always worked to be here. So, my first goal for Manchester United [against Everton] I will always remember. “I like being in England and enjoy it. It is a new culture and a new language. I want to learn more of this language and I will study so then it will be even easier to live here. “I was always told that the Premier League would suit my playing style and England has always attracted me. “Ever since I was a child I always wanted to come here, so much so that I learned the language. So I was preparing myself in some way for a future move to England.” [H/T The Mirror]
