Rafflesia in flower. I was lucky enough to see one of these rare flowers today. Takes nine months from bud to flower and only flowers for five days before dying. Smells like rotten meat and this one is about 70cm across. They are protected by the government and will not allow the farmers to cultivate the land where they are found. The farmers are allowed to charge a fee to tourists to see the flowers as compensation.
