Rag or Raga is a classical Indian mode of music. The Hindi/Urdu - TopicsExpress

Rag or Raga is a classical Indian mode of music. The Hindi/Urdu word "rag" is derived from the Sanskrit "raga" which means "colour, or passion" and it is linked to the Sanskrit word "ranj" which means "to colour". Therefore rag may be thought of as an acoustic method of colouring the mind of the listener with an emotion. Ragas a variety of instruments and use a series of 5 or more notes to make a melody, however the approach to the notes and the mood that they convey is more important than the actual note itself. Many North Indian ragas are associated with different times of the day and even the different seasons. When a raga is prescribed and performed at its particular time the raga will have its most maximum effect. I find ragas to be enchanting, mesmerising and beautifully haunting. I tend to slow down quite considerably when particular ragas are played and there is definitely a noticeable feeling evoked with each different raga. So good morning, kick back, close your eyes, while you take a minute or two to listen to this beautiful morning raga while you set your mind and motivation for your day or task ahead of you.
