The only beneficiaries being the profiteering companies that have been hoovering profit out of the rail network for two decades. The only reason theyve been able to soak so much profit out of the system is that the privatised rail network has been receiving far more in subsidies than it cost to run the whole of British Rail in the 80s and early 90s (this fact accounts for the effect of inflation).
