Raising a glass to my Uncle Arleigh. He always took time for me. Served at Inchon and Chosen. I remember him, half in the bag, trying to talk me out of enlisting as a paratrooper. He died a few years ago. A quiet hero. No one knew how many lives he saved...except for me - his nephew that he trusted to tell what Korea was like. And many of my family, including my mom, didnt know of his service or heroics. Shameful. So when i think of Veterans Day, I think of my Uncle Arleigh. Yes, I dont like being thanked for what I believed was my duty. But i do like the opportunity to tell you about my uncle. He was a real hero.
