Raising awareness for Armed Forces Day Redditch residents are invited to join the Mayor and the Royal British Legion to show their support for Britain’s servicemen and women at a flag-raising ceremony on Monday (24 June). A short flag-raising ceremony from 10.30am sharp until 11am will see the Mayor of Redditch raise the flag outside the Town Hall in a show of support for the week leading up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June. Refreshments will be available afterwards in Committee Room two of the Town Hall’s civic suite. Armed Forces Day aims to raise awareness of the contribution made to the country by the armed forces as well as give the nation the chance to show their appreciation. On Saturday 29th a march will be held through the town centre leaving at 10.15am from the Town Hall. Anyone can join in or line the route to watch and are encouraged to bring flags to wave as a show of support. Mayor of Redditch, Cllr Wanda King, said: “Armed Forces Day differs from Remembrance Day as it allows us to show our appreciation for those that have sacrificed their lives as well as servicemen and women who continue to put their lives at everyday. The ceremonies taking place in Redditch are fitting – they fight for us so we are showing our appreciation for them.”
