Raising the minimum wage in the end only hurts professionals who do not see automatic pay raises after minimum wage hikes. As it is, here in Puerto Rico, many professionals and technical skilled workers are only earning slightly above the minimum wage. With another hike, for many there wont be any point in assuming the responsibilities and demands of a profession when the same wage could easily be earned in a non-skilled job. Theres a reason why minimum wage is minimum wage, mainly because typically the occupation requires only a minimum set of skills and a marginal educational--if any. In these types of jobs replacement of workers can be done with little or training time for the on-coming workers. Thus, it makes no sense to attempt to raise the standard of living by raising the minimum wage. If, people wish not to earn a minimum wage, then they must learn the skills and obtain educational requirements to earn higher wages.
