Ralph Ward Johnson Ralph Ward Johnson, 97, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Nov. 4, 2014, in Iowa City, Iowa, after a long illness. He was born in Altoona, son of George and Jessie (Moore) Johnson. Surviving are two sons: Dr. Alan Kim Johnson (Marlene) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Dr. J. Kent Johnson (Dr. Cheryl) of North Liberty, Iowa; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Ralph graduated from Altoona High School, and he married Virginia Rouzer in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a medical aidman in the WWII Pacific Theater and returned to Williamsburg to work at Penelec until his retirement in 1979. He was a Boy Scout scoutmaster, encouraging local youth for many years, and was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. He and Virginia enjoyed gardening and camping and after retirement traveled in their RV before moving to Mesa, Ariz. Virginia passed away in 1992. Ralph married Lois Lampkin in 1996, and they relocated to Iowa City to be closer to family in 2004. Ralph joined St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on his move to Iowa City. Lois passed away in 2009. Ralphs greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and lovingly called Pappy by those who knew him. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
