Ramadan Reminder from Dr. Bilal Philips Tazkirah at Al Khaadem Ramadhan 2014 Notes taken by Aliza Kim Topic: Keeping the Quran Alive -We can read the Bible but it cannot be used as evidence as it has been altered. Especially in dawah it is useful to cite from it to clarify parts with the Quran. -One of the unique characteristics of Islam is that our Holy Book has been preserved and remains unchanged. -That does not mean the other Books are not authentic...we believe in them. We believe in the original books that were sent but we also believe that these original books no longer exist. Example: We believe in the Gospel of Jesus...not the gospel of John. And, we believe in the original Torah, which no longer is available. -This month of fasting is built on the book, the Quran. The Quran was revealed this month and fasting was prescribed during this month to signify the importance of the revelation of the Quran. -2 things that if we hold on firmly to it, we will never go astray: Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW. -Holding onto the book means keeping in constant contact with the Quran, learning and understanding the message of the Quran and implementing the lessons and guidance it gives. If we are only reading the Quran during Ramadan then we have failed. -Remember that the Quran is not like the bible which focuses on stories. The Quran is not the same. The Quran is communication from Allah SWT to us. So, when reading it we should understand it as Allah SWT sending us a message...not all stories. -There is a thread that holds the Quran together although there are a vaste number of topics mentioned in the Quran. That is recognition of Allah SWTs favor upon us and having gratitude on that favor. We need that attitude of grattitude. -Alhamdullilah is the most important concept of our lives. Each prayer starts with this word to emphasize this concept. Grattitude is key. -The Quran tells us why we should be grateful, about our lives, about how to treat one another and how to utilise the benefits of the world in ways that are pleasing to Allah SWT. -Why were past societies destroyed either external or internal through corruption...because of ingratitude and rejection of Allah SWT. -Remember that we were made to go back to Jannah. The Quran is our guidebook and plan or path to go back to Jannah. The path of the Quran and the Path of the Sunnah is layed out clearly. -The Quran is a special Mercy from Him. The books of Revelation are a Mercy because they tell us what is right a wrong so we can stay on the right Path. -We need to keep our Revelation alive, in use, and applicable to reinforce our contact with and understanding of the message. Once we understand the message of the Quran then we can apply it in our lives. -Honor the Quran by reading it and understanding it. -Dont get caught up in the external factors of finishing the Quran to simply finish it at all cost by recitation. This was not the way of Prophet Muhammad SAW and the 1st Generation. They aimed to learn the meaning and life lessons of the Quran...and then they lived it. They were the best generation...the Generation of the Quran. They didnt recite it for the sake of recitation, they learned the Quran to understand it and to implement it. -Act upon the Quran #allah swt #islam #prophetmuhammad saw #prophet #muhammad saw #quran #sunnah #deen #muslim #muslimah #mumin #muminah #islamicreminders #ramadan #ramadan2014 #teraweh #qiyyam #tasqeerah #ramadanreminders #alkhaadem #drbilalphilips
