Ramana Maharshi on Self-Realisation. I recommend watching the video but you can read (what is written below) for clarification on some things.. For your information. The Self = True, unconditioned, boundless self. Our true nature The Ego= False, created, conditioned self. Realisation is already there...It is the mind that stands between and veils our happiness. Getting rid of the mind: Is it the mind that wants to get rid of itself? The mind cannot kill itself so your business is to find the real nature of the mind, then you will know that there is no mind [as we think it to be]. When the Self is sought, the mind is nowhere. Abiding in the Self [In unconditioned aware-presence/ In I-AM/ in non-conceptual being, our true nature] one need not worry about the mind [Dont try to control/hold the mind in any way, simply relax into your natural I-AMness alone; the mind and ego will eventually dissolve by themselves].... The state free from thoughts is the only real state. ...This method seems to be quicker than the usual one of cultivating qualities alleged necessary for salvation. All bad qualities centre around the ego. When the ego is gone, realisation results by itself. There is neither good nor bad qualities in the Self. The Self is free from all qualities. Qualities pertain to the mind only. It (the Self) is beyond quality. Unity [oneness] gives rise to duality [separateness]. The number one gives rise to other numbers. The truth is it is neither one nor two; IT IS AS IT IS [Neither one, nor two, nor any objective “thing”. Hence why the Ancient sages of India, in their wisdom and foresight described their teachings as Ad-vaita. Not-Two. Non-Duality. Indicating that Truth is beyond the mind because the mind can only objectify reality). The difficulty is to be [remain] in the thought-free state The keystone of the Maharshis teaching is Atma-vichara [Can be translated as Self-enquiry, Self-remembrance, Self-abidance]. His infallible direct path to self-realisation coupled with total devotional surrender to God, Self or Guru. Broadly speaking, Sri Baghavan tells us that the Immortal Self/Reality... is already there inherent in each of us. The difficulty is that we do not recognise That - our true nature or our essential I-AMness - because it is veiled and obscured by latent tendencies and habits of the egotistical mind which acts as a mirror and projects a dream of the world, the body and the mind. Our identification with the body and mind is the chief reason for our failure to know ourselves as we really are. Through persistent self-enquiry, devotion and surrender of the egotistical mind to God in the spiritual heart, this obscuration and identification is gradually and gracefully removed until the immortal Self is realised. - Sri Ramana Maharshi youtube/watch?v=weXKuURMgMs
