Ran across something disturbing on Ebay. I have found a listing - TopicsExpress

Ran across something disturbing on Ebay. I have found a listing for the 1863 plat map of Lapeer County, the same one I own. Because of its age, its considered public domain. However, this particular listing had me intrigued because an appraiser told me he could only find 4 maps. I was briefly excited, thinking that this seller had an original too, making it #5. Not the case. He copied the TIFF images off the Library of Congress website and is selling prints in 4 sections for $50. If you want to buy the same copies, you can get them for $10 + postage from the Library of Michigan. Caveat emptor, thats my feeling. Do your research before buying. Whats your thoughts on this? Do you think people should be able to just take things off the web like that, make no changes, add nothing, just merely print it off and sell it for whatever? I never make a profit off something I feel belongs to another. This just gives me an uneasy feeling.
