Randall, I just left the Senate floor, and I wanted you to be among the first to hear the great news: By a vote of 59-38, the U.S. Senate just passed my bill with bipartisan support to extend federal unemployment insurance to more than two million Americans. This is a great first step. But our work is far from over. Now the bill heads to the U.S. House of Representatives where Speaker John Boehner says he wont even bring it up for a vote. Thats wrong, and he needs to hear from all of us. Will you stand with me -- and with Senators Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Bob Menendez, and Chris Murphy, along with thousands of members of the Service Employees International Union and VoteVets -- to make sure our voices are heard? I worry Speaker Boehner is digging in his heels, saying he wont bring our bill up for a vote because he thinks the bill wont help create jobs. Well, my bill does create jobs -- as many as 200,000 of them according to the Congressional Budget Office -- by keeping two million unemployed Americans afloat and providing them money they can spend on food and necessities for their families. Thats the right thing to do for those two million families, who deserve our support while theyre struggling, and its good for our economy.
