Randall, Working 40 hours a week should earn you enough to support yourself and your family. But that isn’t the case for far too many hard working Minnesota families that can’t make ends meet. That’s why it’s time for Congress to act now and raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. Join me in calling on Congress to vote to raise the minimum wage today. Our legislature here in Minnesota is expected to vote raise the state minimum wage to $9.50 this week. It’s a big step in the right direction for Minnesota workers, but we need to raise it at the federal level to protect all workers across the country and ensure a level playing field for our small businesses. John Kline voted against raising the minimum wage in 2007 to $7.25 – even George W. Bush supported that increase! Now John Kline is once again standing in the way of raising the minimum wage for hardworking Minnesotans. While worker productivity and profits have soared over the last two decades, the minimum wage hasn’t even kept pace with inflation. Every year the cost of gasoline, home prices, energy and basic food staples continues to rise - while minimum wage workers see their paychecks buying them less. The difference between $7.25 and $10.10 an hour is the difference between keeping the heat on and going cold. It’s the difference between having a proper meal and going hungry. Raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour could lift nearly 5 million Americans out of poverty. Join me and take a stand right now. Sign the petition and tell Congress to raise the wage.
