Random Act of Kindness! Today we opened early to accommodate a group of 17 policemen from the neighboring District 4 Winthrop substation. They arrived at 6:30 AM thirty minutes before our normal opening time and Damen LaRussa our manager had us staffed early to serve those that serve us and in the process putting their lives on the line. All the activity and cars out front attracted more guests and among them a couple that took notice of all the officers and to show their appreciation picked up the tab for all of them! To show their gratitude for the kindness showed to them the policemen then asked Damen to pick out another table and they would pick up their tab. Damen chose one of our regulars that typically dines alone and is always very quiet and reserved and immune to our attempts at humor. :) Upon learning that he was the recipient of the policemens random act of kindness he left $25 at the desk and said keep it going! We were excited and hoping to have a truly amazing story to tell at the end of the day but unfortunately it ended shortly thereafter. Despite this it was uplifting to see just a small taste of the potential of kind acts and their ability to bring out the best in others :)
